Industrial waste producers are continuing to invest in better Waste Management. One such company, following an internal review of their waste and recycling activity, approached PDE to introduce innovative change to a waste operation that had not changed for 15 years.

Large open skip containers, of 40 cubic yard capacity, were being loaded with general waste and cardboard and being emptied on a daily basis. PDE surveyed the needs of their Manchester operation and reported back to the client, providing a simple waste strategy for the site as outlined below.

Open containers being loaded by fork trucks and suffering badly from windscatter, were replaced by a PD2250 Heavy Duty Static Waste Compactor with a 35 cubic yard compaction chamber. This compactor has now reduced volume so significantly that a once per week collection is now the norm.

The PDE compactor repaid its investment within 12 months and will continue to offer major benefits for at least seven to eight years for this client.

A PD450 Mill Sized Baler was also introduced by PDE to bale segregated, loose cardboard and present it in bales of up to 450kg, for collection every fortnight in five tonne loads. The client now receives a revenue stream from cardboard and in addition, they save transport costs and increase their carbon footprint obligation. The investment to rent this PDE baler has seen a profitable return for the client.
